Creating a world of joy, nostalgia and charm with illustrated paper dolls and the magic of stop motion animation
Laufey’s 12 Days of Christmas (2024)
What started as a fan letter to my favourite singer turned into a dream opportunity to create for Grammy award winning artist Laufey.
Through the power of social media, I was commissioned by Junia Lin (Laufey’s creative director) to create an animation for Laufey’s official fan HQ Laufeyland, as part of their 2024 ‘12 Days of Christmas’ series. The brief was to celebrate the release of Laufey’s holiday single ‘Santa Baby’ and to showcase Laufey’s Christmas outfits from previous years as well as the ‘Santa Baby’ music video. The animation was posted on Instagram and TikTok and received an overwhelmingly positive response.
The animation was created using my signature illustration style and brought to life with stop motion photography. Every element you see is created by hand - the paper dolls, outfits, props and backgrounds - with each piece being meticulously hand drawn and then cut out. The scenes are captured through still photography and individual pieces moved for each frame. The result is a unique and tactile visual style that is playful and nostalgic.
